As a musically-challenged biologist with an appreciation of folk music, my inital aim was to find an instrument with as few buttons as possible, that was portable and sounded 'traditional'. The result was a red, cheap, 20 button, Italian-made Anglo concertina. In time, this was replaced by a 20 button, brass reeded, Lachenal Anglo, then a 24 button, brass reeded, Lachenal Anglo, then a 50 button, steel reeded, Lachenal Anglo, then a ................ Appalling playing does not hamper the enjoyment of collecting, researching and restoring concertinas; this site is homage to some of the makers of these wonderful instruments; Louis Lachenal, George Jones, Fredrick C. Nickolds, Charles Wheatstone............. Although many of the concertinas shown on this site are part of a personal collection, there is also an assortment of concertinas that are for sale. |
